






I just finished my first week at the Skagit Valley Herald down in Mount Vernon. Skagit County is quite different than Bellingham. Opposite most of the time, but the rural areas feel reminiscent of home. The city has a sparse population and the epicenter seems to be the strip mall. However, there are so many interesting pockets of character the farther you drive. I’m excited to learn more about the area and the people. Here are a few photos from my first week and the outtakes. Our advanced visual journalism class went on a class field trip to Friday Harbor on San Juan Island this weekend. The assignment was to gather multimedia from an outdoor sculpture park on the island. I was with a great group and the actually traveling was the best part. It has been awhile since I got to ride a ferry. They are quite magical. Here are some random fun photos of the trip. This week has been a long one and I completely forgot it was a three day weekend. With no plans in mind Jaeger and I decided to take a road trip to Portland. Our initial destination was Vancouver, but I was without the proper identification to cross our country’s border. With no plans in mind we powered our way down here and enjoyed the scenery.
