I was asked by a friend to photograph Salon de DASSdance an event where I enjoyed an evening of live music, fine art, dance performances by DASSdance and the Can Can Castaways, a bar and free food. What more can a young boy ask for! Here are some shots from the amazing dance performances. The Salon is held the first Monday of the month at Washington Hall in the Central District. The Emerald Collective, the photo collective I’m apart of with Jordan Stead, photographed Dubstep DJ Nero at the WaMu Theater in downtown Seattle for New Year’s Eve. The energy and the masses of people was incredible. After what seemed forever to get the proper credentials we were given free roam to cover the event. Thanks for looking.

After months of planning my friend Jordan Stead and I started The Emerald Collective. The best thing about working with Jordan is that the final product comes out better than I initially perceive. Lighting and overall concept are much easier to imagine when you have someone to bounce ideas off of. I got up early and drove to Pike Place Market to catch some early light. The morning always has a sense of calm and quiet that I find comforting.
Okay, okay, okay before you start calling me a pervert I photographed this with my good friend Jordan Stead. As a photographer I get to see some pretty interesting things and that’s what I love about my job. I get to photograph things most people haven’t and go places most people dream of. That being said, when Jordan called me to photograph the event, I was hesitant at first at what others would think. However, I couldn’t pass up the opportunity to see something different. It definitely wasn’t what I thought it would be. Jordan and I were led to the back room of a bar where there was a makeshift stage with a kiddy pool of green translucent jello. Plastic lined the floor with multi-colored lights lighting the “arena”. We felt like we were in a movie. The crowd was a mix of men and women, young and old. A grandma was sitting behind me, no kidding. The atmosphere was positive not skeezy like one would be led to believe. It focused on the strength of the women. “We’re here to watch these girls kick some ass,” the ref proclaimed. That’s exactly what happend. I would compare it to a burlesque show or roller-derby. Here is to doing something different all the time. Sorry, family members this is my life. More images on the jump.
